Redevelopment on the King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh has begun, according to Saudi Binladin Group (SBG). The announcement comes as the Kingdom works to expand its sports infrastructure ahead of the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
The project involves the modernisation of the stadium to meet international standards for major sporting events, which includes increasing its seating capacity to around 70,200 spectators. SBG has said that the redevelopment also involves upgrades to the stadium’s infrastructure and facilities, aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing the experience for athletes, spectators, and event organisers.
Moreover, the upgrades to the venue will mean that the stadium meets FIFA requirements for hosting matches during the 2034 World Cup, which Saudi Arabia is set to stage.
